NADI
Urban Interventionism is a name sometimes given to a number of different kinds of activist design and art practices, art that typically responds to the social community, local identity, the built environment, and public places. The goals are often to create new awareness of social issues, and to stimulate community involvement. The urban intervention project aims to enhance the characteristics of the area, improve the users’ engagement to place as place making concerns. This will certainly provide you a bette understanding of the site and building design within context as a whole.
FISHING SPOT
We would like to promote fishing as a favourite pastime activity for the locals. The descending steps shaded by an elevated walkway would suggest a favourite gathering spot for fishing. It can grow into a community event which bonds the old and new generations together.
PLACE OF MEETING
Historically, Kuala Terengganu is well-known for attracting traders from different parts of the world. The intersection of paths brings people coming from different parts of the city together into a meeting point.
BREATHING SPACE
The elevated walkway provides a shady area for the locals to relax, away from the bustle of the city. They can lie down and rest, while enjoying the spectacular view of the Terengganu drawbridge.
DESIGN INTENT
Reviving the sense of belonging
Many years ago in Kuala Terengganu, fishermen who depended on the sea for a living lived very close to the water. Therefore, the aim of our urban intervention proposal is to encourage the local community to embrace the river, and remember what Kuala Terengganu was well known for.
DESIGN IDEA
We are inspired by an old photo depicting a group of fishermen pushing their boat into the water as they set out to the sea. The elevated walkway that juts out into the water represents the head of the fishermen boat as it descends into the water.
